Abstract

The possibility of setting up a Computer Aided Design (CAD) System, was created at the JRC-ISPRA in the first months of 1984. A task force was got up to perform a market survey. A call for tender was made and the Computervision CAD System MEDUSA was selected. The System was installed and has been fully operational since July 1985. Training courses were organized in collaboration with Computervision and were attended with great interest by the users. Up to this moment, the work produced by CAD System consists of several conceptual designs and technical rd detailed drawing with considerable work and time reduction. As well as the integrated system FEM (Finite Element Method) CAD allows users to perform very difficult thermal, mechanical and electromagnetic analyses of fusion reactor NET structures. Today, we can confirm that the CAD System was an excellent investment for JRC-ISPRA, so that a gradual increase from the actual 6 to 15 workstations was recently decided upon.
