Abstract

In the frame of the communitarian research programmes, the optimisation of management of low and medium level liquid wastes arising during reprocessing operations was addressed according to two different approaches : separate management of the alkaline effluents generated during TBP clean-up or exhaustive decontamination of the reprocessing concentrates resulting from mixing and evaporation of the whole effluents. Relying on experimental results, different management routes for reprocessing liquid wastes were defined and evaluated. These showed that the economical impact nd deriving from separate management of the alkaline effluents is low despite the important contribution of these latter to the overall activity contained in reprocessing liquid effluents. On the opposite, the exhaustive decontamination of reprocessing concentrates is bound to enable important cost savings which justify the communitarian efforts in this field for setting up satisfactory treatment processes.
