Abstract

The investigations carried out on DWR fuel rods nd during or after load changes, with or without destruction, showed no "cyclisation" effects of the fuel rods. This was demonstrated in particular by the rather small ridge formation at the stress points and by the unchanged diameter of the fuel rod.R The emission of fission gas and the changes in the fuel structure correspond to the level of rod loads. Overall the experiments confirm the good behaviour of KWU DWR fuel rods under load changes up to high burn-ups.R
