LA REALISATION DU MARCHE DE L'INFORMATION - UN ENJEU COMMUNAUTAIRE
The development of advanced information services in the European Community is lagging far behind the United States. However, during the last twelve months, important initiatives have been taken at European level which will contribute to the creation of a more favourable environment for the development of the information market: - gradual implementation of a Community policy in the field of telecommunications, - adoption of a five-year plan for the development of the specialized information market, - approval by the European Council of heads of State or Government of the achievement of the information market as a specific goal. So far the Community has placed the main emphasis on the "T" in New Information Technologies. Today, it takes up the challenge of Information, the "I". Indeed, it is the high quality and availability of specialised information sources which will determine the competitiveness of community industries and services.
