Abstract

Two high resolution seismic reflection profiles, acquired with vibrators as sources of P and S waves, have been recorded and elaborated. In the well Chiusdino - 3,2704 m deep and located close to the profiles - several geophysical logs have been carried out: temperature log, SP and Induction, Density log, Natural Radioactivity log, Sonic log with P and S waves velocity measurements. These data enabled the calculation of the elasticity moduli and of the mechanical properties of the rocks intersected. The sonic log results have been calibrated by means of a vertical seismic profile, successively performed, which has allowed to compute synthetic seismograms and a PSV log to be compared with the seismic sections for the correlation between S and P seismic reflectors. The structural maps obtained from data interpretation describe at a sufficient detail the fractures trend of the Travale- Radicondoli field. By comparing V-s and V-p velocities for the different geological unities, as defined by the interpretation, it has been tentatively followed the change in the alpha = V-p/V-s ratio and in the Poisson coefficient to explain the seismic evidence as a function of material properties. The influence of the lithology on the elastic constants has been discussed as well as the influence of the saturating fluids and of the degree of saturation. The different behaviour in the attenuation of the P and S waves depending on the above mentioned characteristics proves the chances offered by the seismic methods in the evaluation of the potentiality of geothermal reservoirs.
