Abstract

In this note,we review the reason for the choice of certain specific wavelengths for the calculation of vegetation indices. The different calculation modes of the vegetation indices are reviewed from a practical point of view. Channel rations and linear combination are distinguished as two main groups. Beside their own working mode, their advantages and drawbacks are analyzed in connection with some environmental conditions: irradiance variability, state and nature of the soil, eventual presence of water, etc...
