Abstract

The study "Characterisation of candidate buffer materials" is related to repositories in hard rock (granite) and comprises two parts. Volume 1 puts together results of laboratory testing of two types of potential candidate materials for use in radioactive waste repositories: - modern magnesium-based binders (part A) - natural clays (smectites) (part B) Volume 2 covers a preliminary thermo-mechanical calculation of the canister-buffer-host rock complex in a crystalline rock environment.
