Abstract

The limits of operation of Frascati Tokamak (FT) are illustrated recurring to the Hugill diagram. The limits are connected to disruptive instabilities, which have different characteristics according to the different boundaries in the operation plane. The influence of MHD tearing modes on plasma performances is described in the "standard" operation of FT (q-L > 3), together with the means to avoid the onset of these instabilities. Finally the operation at low q is discussed with its consequences on energy confinement.
