Abstract

The results of a powder neutron diffraction study of the cubic fluorite solid solution U-1-xNp-xO-2 (x = 0.25, x = 0.75) are presented. For x = 0.25, an antiferromagnetic type-I order appears below T-N = (16.5+-0.2) K with an ordered magnetic moment mu = (1.8+-0.1)mu-B. For x = 0.75 the solid solution is magnetically ordered below T-o = (10.5+-0.6) K. However, the magnetic structure is different and appears to be short range in character.
