Abstract

The publication is the proceedings of a technical meeting to examine the role of the stockman in livestock productivity and management. The stockman has a critical function in modern farm systems. The growing interest in animal welfare poses important questions. The scientific study of stockmanship has received only limited attention and this initial meeting enabled research workers, advisers and other interested technicians to discuss and share their views particularly to harmonize on definitions, terminology, research epistemology; to study the results available and to identify key areas for development and training.
