Abstract

Acceleration grids of positive ion neutral injectors are operated at voltages of 40 kV to 160 kV with beam currents of 30 ANGSTROEM to 100 ANGSTROEM. Frequent grid breakdowns establish requirements such as: - to switch off the power supply within a few microseconds, - to limit the energy coupled into the arcing grid to a few joules. The new approach to meet these requirements for the 55 kV, 90 ANGSTROEM ACCEL-system for the TEXTOR neutral injection has been described. The paper gives an overview upon the commissioning of the supply. Emphasis is placed on the presentation of difficulties encountered during this operating period and how they have been overcome. Furthermore the operating behaviour with an ion source grid system as load is depicted. The advantageous operating mode due to the straightforward control of the power supply system is described.
