Abstract

The aims of the Advanced Stellarator WENDELSTEIN VII-AS are: - the investigation of plasma behavior in an optimized Stellarator configuration; - the investigation of a plasma without ohmic heating currents; W VII-AS is an upgraded and improved version of W VII-A using the frame structure and the technical infrastructure of the earlier device. Two technically outstanding components have been in the center of activity: firstly, the nonplanar coils and, secondly, the vacuum vessel. The paper will give a survey of the technical development results and a timetable for the completion of the machine will be presented.
