Abstract

ICRH experiments in several tokamaks with Megawatts heating power and pulse lengths up to a few seconds have shown heating efficiencies comparable to Neutral Injection. Disadvantageous is the confinement degradation with increasing power, comparable to Neutral Injection, and the production of impurities (in case of high Z material vessel walls). Heating power and pulse length of ICRH are limited by technological characteristics of the RF device as electrical strength of lines and antennae, temperature rise and power capability of the generators. The technological status and measures to improve these limitations are discussed.
