LONG PULSE NEUTRAL INJECTION FOR ASDEX, ASDEX UPGRADE, AND WENDELSTEIN VII-AS - DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND SYSTEMS PERFORMANCE
The long-pulse neutral beam injection systems for the ASDEX tokamak, modified for long pulses (called ASDEX II), and the Wendelstein VII-AS stellarator are now under construction. This completes a phase of design, development and manufacture of a number of new components needed to cope with the enhanced requirements of long pulse injection. A beam line test showed that the objectives of this programme have been achieved. The first beam lines are scheduled for installation on ASDEX in autumn 1986 and on Wendelstein in spring 1987. For the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak (AUG), a new system for a neutral power of 6 MW (Ho) at 55 kV is in the early design phase. The beam line concept will closely follow the ASDEX II/W VII-AS model.
