Final report of COST 302 Project "Research into technical and economic conditions for the use of electric road vehicles." From 1982 to 1986 eleven European countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, F.R. of Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom) and the European Community undertook under the auspices of COST (European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research) a joint research project on the technical and economic conditions for the use of electric road vehicles, known as project COST 302. The aim of these countries, taking into account the real technical evolution and the socio-economic consequences of the use of electric vehicles, was to compile the necessary information for decisions, at national or European level, on the introduction of such vehicles. The overall work was directed by a Management Committee on which the eleven participating countries as well as the Commission of the European Communities were represented. Working groups were made responsible for the various themes of the project. Work was carried out in two phases: - phase I: study of the impact of the introduction of electric vehicles; and identification of weak points in the technology and of the necessary R and D and demonstration activities. - phase II: economic evaluation of various hypotheses concerning use; and definition of actions which could eliminate obstacles to the introduction of electric vehicles. The final report presents the results of work on the themes studied on the project.
