HIGH TEMPERATURE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SILICON NITRIDE
The results of an extensive high-temperature mechanical test programme on the recently commercialised silicon nitride are reported. The results are compared with those for competitive ceramics, in particular other silicon nitrides, sialons and silicon carbides. Deformation and failure mechanisms, which are thought to limit the performance of the material at high temperatures are indicated and the implications for processing improvements are discussed.
