Abstract

A study was performed in 1986 at the JRC-Ispra with the aim of evaluating a hydrogen system with the minimum possible level of pollution. On the basis of the results of the analysis, despite its limits of approximation, it is possible to say that: item - the transport of hydrogen by sea by ships is possible using the new reactions of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation, in which the substances involved are liquids; item - the transport of hydrogen produced at low cost in distant sites, where low-cost electricity is available, towards European countries, which are separated from these sites by the sea, is, therefore, possible; item - the costs to be added to the cost of production of hydrogen at low cost are such that its cost at the arrival in Europe can be lower than that of hydrogen produced with energy at European costs.par
