DEALING WITH UNCERTAINTY IN A MULTISOURCE INTERROGATION
A possible informatic structure is proposed for the design of the Reliability Parameters Data Bank (RPDB) of the European Reliability Data System (ERDS) designated to store reliability parameters of nuclear power plant components. The parameters to be collected should result from the combination of the output parameters from the ERDS Component Event Data Bank with analogous figures from literature sources which adopt in general different classification or attributes for the same component type and related failure modes. The uncertainty deriving from the combination of these sources will be resolved by an approach based on fuzzy sets and the theory of possibilities. An intelligent RPDB interface will thus interrogate the CEDB and various literature source data bases, giving a unique answer to a request in a language allowing the use of fuzzy attributes. A program written in a LISP language, capable of interrogating the sources IEEE st. 500 and the CEDB to obtain electric motors failure rates, has been implemented.
