Abstract

The Euratom Safeguards Directorate has spent considerable effort during the last few years in the test, acquisition, calibration and implementation of new safeguards equipment. This reflects the importance that Euratom attaches to the role of containment and surveillance and to measurement equipment in safeguards implementation. This paper gives an overview of the measurement equipment which Euratom has implemented in recent years. In addition to the information about calibration and performance of equipment under inspection conditions, an evaluation of measurement data has been performed to provide typical operator-inspector differences for the different instruments and material types measured. This paper will describe procedures used for the performance control of some instruments, specifically some neutron and other measurement equipment such as load cell applications and use of in- field mass spectrometry.
