Abstract

The report refers to the VERMIN computer code (Vault Exudations Resulting in the Migration of Nuclides). This code simulates the time dependent behaviour of radionuclide releases and it provides the source term for the probabilistic radiological assessment code SYVAC. A validation methodology applied to the VERMIN code is presented. Model predictions of various nuclide migration processes are compared with experimental results. The use of VERMIN is shown in the simulation of the behaviour of a repository in a clay formation; it then provides the source term for input to the two-dimensional geosphere model NAMSOL. The radionuclide inventories used represent the intermediate wastes generated by the production of 30 GW of electricity from a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR); these wastes are assumed to be encapsulated in a cement matrix.
