BEHAVIOUR OF THE NOZZLE CORNER REGION DURING THE FIRST PHASE OF THE FATIGUE TEST ON SCALED MODELS OF PRESSURE VESSELS ("IT JRC VESSEL A")
The work deals with the stress and fracture mechanics analysis, applied to the safety and reliability assessment of the JRC-Ispra 1/5th scale PWR pressure vessel. Behaviour of the nozzle corner region during phase one of the fatigue test has been examined. The approach to the problem is presented and adopted in the work, based on the finite element, three dimensional non- linear stress analysis, the results of which are used for the determination of the relevant fracture mechanics parameters: strain energy release rate, "it J/" integral, stress intensity factor, and probabilistic fatigue crack growth rate. The experimental results obtained and those from the literature, confirm the results obtained analytically.
