HEAT TRANSFER IN SELFHEATED PARTICLE BEDS SUBMERGED IN LIQUID COOLANT
The PAHR scenario and specific phenomena are described. The one-dimensional physical model for boiling and dryout in debris beds is derived on the basis of Darcy's law including relative permeabilities. Channeling of debris beds is described. The equations solved by the program PAHR-2D, and the numerical discretization, are presented. The solution procedure is outlined. Post-test calculations for the SANDIA D-10 experiment are compared with experimental results. A calculation of a transient after a steep power ramp shows qualitatively the phenomena previous to a bed disturbance. A small overview of the in-pile experiments is given. The bed disturbance, obtained in the first experiment at Mol, is emphasized.
