GUIDE TO INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED HARDWARE INTERFACES WITH TUTORIAL
The guide discusses the hardware and software factors to be considered when designing a system using signal interfaces, supplementing the standards defined by the standards organizations (IEEE, ISO, etc.). The reasons for compiling such a guide are to provide recent survey information to potential users, designers, and other interested people, and to encourage the use of standards. After a general introduction to the subject of interfaces the guide continues with a tutorial section, which first considers the very basic elements and then presents the individual principles of interfaces. A set of survey tables containing major parameters and features of the interfaces is given as a short preview and a compact reference. The interfaces are then described, not specified', individually, with sufficient information to help users of the guide to appreciate the general value and interest of the interface considered for a given application and to provide information for making decisions or comparisons. Finally, a discussion complements the information sections of the guide, comparing interfaces and looking at trends. The addresses of standardization bodies, the bibliography, and the acknowledgements conclude the document.
