Abstract

A model is developed for the calculation of the magnetic fields in JET. The model includes the important geometric features of the JET iron core, the material properties of the magnetic circuit, and is based upon a filamentary current loop representation of the plasma current. A solution for the magnetic vector potential is obtained. Application of the solution to a model with upper and lower connecting stubs leads to a simplification and the important geometric effects can be readily identified. Results of a parametric study with the model are given and a comparison with the results obtained from the Blum 2-D equilibrium code is made. The model is far less cumbersome, and significantly faster than other numerical codes that are currently available.
