CAPABILITY EVALUATION TO RELIABILITY ASSESSMENTS (PICS PROJECTS)
The programme for the Inspection of Steel Components (PISC) carried out since 1974 under the auspices of the OECD (Nuclear Energy Agency) and the CEC (Joint Research Centre) is a major international effort to better assess the capability and reliability of non-destructive inspection techniques and procedures for nuclear reactor structural components. Fifteen member countries of OECD-NEA participate in the programme and contribute resources in kind. They are represented on the PISC Managing Board for which OECD-NEA provides the Secretariat. Substantial resources are provided by CEC-JRC Ispra which, in its roles of Operating Agent and Reference Laboratory, manages the programme. This programme is now in its third phase (PISC III); during which, the activities will concentrate on the further validation of the PISC II results on real structures containing realistic or real service defects and on the extension of the PISC methodology to other important reactor structural components.
