Abstract

The results of the first research project presented here show that the density limit for the wave-electron interaction has been investigated in the range =n sim 4--20times10"13" cm"-3". Enhancement of the 4th harmonic of the EC emission have been observed up to =n = 1.5times10"14" cm"-3" despite the worse accessibility due to the necessity of functioning with three waveguide columns out of four. This enhancement is strong at low density (=n sim 5times10"13" cm"-3") and becomes weaker as the density is increased. The second paper leads to the conclusion that despite the technical problems, good performances of the system have been obtained up to a power density at grill mouth of 9 kW/cm2. There are indications that this value is not a limit to current operations but that higher power density requires a better grill conditioning. Good coupling has been obtained in all the investigated plasma conditions for boundary density in agreement with theoretical expectations.
