NITROGEN EFFICIENCY IN AGRICULTURAL SOILS
This book contains the papers presented at a Seminar on Nitrogen efficiency in agricultural soils and the efficient use of fertilizer nitrogen, held at the University of Edinburgh, 16-18 September 1987. The Seminar was organized on behalf of the Commission of the European Communities (CEC) as part of their Energy in Agriculture Research Programme and the aims were: item"(1)" to bring together and consider current work on the efficiency of use of fertilizers in agriculture; item"(2)" to examine the pathways by which nitrogen is lost from the crop/soil system; item"(3)" to consider how the biological transformations undergone by nitrogen influence its behaviour in soil and its uptake by plants; item"(4)" to discuss current attempts to model the behaviour of fertilizer nitrogen in soil and to assess how best to use such models to minimize wastage of nitrogen.
