INTEGRATED CROP PROTECTION - FROM PRINCIPLES TO PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION
This publication constitutes a collection of scientific papers on the subject of integrated crop protection: from principles to practical implementation' presented and discussed during a scientific meeting held in Brussels (9 to 11 October 1984), organized by the IOBC, EPPO and the Directorate-General for Agriculture of the Commission of the European Communities as part of the research programme on energy in agriculture. The aim of this Conference was to present the activities of the three organizations CEC, IOBC, EPPO in the field of integrated plant protection, to organize a forum for a wide and open discussion between researchers and farmers, and to evaluate the results obtained in view of their application and the effective transfer of integrated control technology into practice. The meeting was also divided into working sessions with ample discussion and the participating experts considered the modern phytosanitary defence of some key crops such as: cereals and associated crops; apple, pear, peach, citrus and olive groves; and protected crops. The directions of action of the three organizations, the principles and application of integrated crop protection, the communications presented by the experts and the conclusions which emerged have been collected in the present volume, from which one can see the importance of the research programmes and the wide-ranging nature of their applications. The prospects for a better management of crop defence against pests, diseases, and weeds, emerge in all their value. International cooperation also gives a new impulse and greater validity to the goals, to achieve the aims of new healthy agriculture, while respecting the principles of the application of integrated control.
