Abstract

The availability and use of certified reference materials has improved and will continue to improve the performance of the analytical laboratories. A wide range of certified reference materials is available from the BCR, also in the field of nonmetals in metals. In most cases of certification, the various sources of error could be reduced to a non-detectable level and a good accuracy could be achieved. In some cases, the available analytical methods allowed only the certification of an upper limit. Exceptionally, CRMs had to be certified with a larger uncertainty than could be provided by analysis, because a homogeneous material could not be obtained.
