AN UNUSUAL APPROACH FOR THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MAIN ELEMENT IN REFERENCE MATERIALS
Two different routes can be followed to certify the element content of uranium reference materials: a direct or an indirect route. With the direct route the element content is assayed using appropriate redox titration methods. The capability of the methods used limits the attainable accuracy. With the indirect route, the total impurity content is measured and the sum is substracted from one hundred percent. The indirect route is preferentially applicable for high purity base materials. The principle and an application of this route are described.
