Abstract

This paper gives a description of the background for the activities of the Community Bureau of Reference. The importance of accurate analyses and measurements in relation to trade is emphasized. The objectives and technical areas are described and it is explained that the BCR activities also could be of interest for laboratories outside the EC, as EFTA countries have the possibility to participate e.g in intercomparisons for their own costs. As the paper will be presented at an acoustic congress with participants from all the Scandinavian countries examples of terminated BCR projects in acoustics are mentioned, such as : item - calibration of one inch and half inch microphones; item - calibration of ultrasonic transducer sensitivity and power by laser interferometry; item - intercomparison of accelerometer calibration; item - intercomparison of measurements on ear protectors by subjective and objective methods; item - in-duct fan noise measurements; item - intercomparison of laboratory measurements of sound insulation of window panes and artifacts.par
