Abstract

This report on corporate management of health risks is focussed on the responsibility of private firms to communicate hazard and risk information to government officials and persons at risk. This function, frequently designated as risk communication, has now emerged as one of the central features of industrial risk management in the European Community and the United States. In both political contexts, new legal requirements and public attitudes now promote corporate disclosure of hazard and risk information on an unprecedented scale. This report is a first step towards gaining a fuller understanding of risk management and communication functions and their societal implications.
