Abstract

The purity of samples of two polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons has been determined in an interlaboratory exercise, involving ten laboratories of the EC member countries. The purity measurements were carried out using a variety of analytical methods (gas liquid chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry). As a result, the two materials have been certified as possessing the following purity levels, expressed as mass fractions of the principal compound: +&81R&5-Methylchrysene&0.9963&pm 0.0025 +&168&Picene&0.9975&+ 0.0022 +&&&&- 0.0034 This report describes the certification procedure and experimental details of the interlaboratory analyses.
