Abstract

Landsat MSS data from September 1986 has been used together with field measurements of spectral reflectance from various surface types to develop a method with which assessment of especially irreversible land degradation can be mapped. Field reconnaissance mapping was carried out and the development from 1972 has been studied. Principal component analysis were used and there seemed to be a very good accordance between the result arrived at by means of the field measurements and the results from the Landsat data.
