AN INTELLIGENT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR MANAGEMENT OF CHEMICAL EMERGENCIES
In our laboratory, we have been using some techniques of artificial intelligence and information science to handle the sensitive problem of chemical emergency management. The design and implementation of an intelligent information system to support decision-making in this field is currently in progress. Some new ideas have been integrated in this work: a set of independent knowledge sources, representing the multidisciplinary nature of the problem, has been developed and models for the coordination of their problem-solving effort are discussed here; a hypertext-like, intelligent user- interface, based on spatial data bases, has been built to support the system. The concepts involved in this work, along with its current developments, are presented in this paper.
