Abstract

The analysis of the results of the PISC I round robin test on welded assemblies containing defects has been characterized by a large dispersion of the sizing results. The characteristics of the equipment were suspected to play a role in this dispersion of the measurement data. Therefore, within the PISC II programme, parametric studies have been performed to: item - evaluate the effect of equipment characteristics on the detection; location and sizing of defects; item - analyse the methodology used by different teams for the measurement of UT instruments and transducer characteristics. par Both studies are now completed and led to surprising results, the conclusion of which are the object of the paper.
