Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Abstract

IN THE FUTURE, EFFORTS DEPLOYED BY THE SPREAD OF AGRICULTURAL ADVISORY SERVICES WILL ESSENTIALLY BEAR ON INCREASING PRODUCTIVITY RATHER THAN PRODUCTION, IN ORDER TO LESSEN THE BURDEN OF AGRICULTURAL SURPLUSES. A GREATER IMPORTANCE SHOULD BE ACCORDED TO IMPROVING QUALITY, TO DECREASING AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION COSTS AND TO ADAPTING THIS PRODUCTION TO MARKET DEMANDS. AT THE SAME TIME, THE PROBLEMS OF THE MOST DEPRIVED REGIONS OF THE COMMUNITY SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN, NOR SHOULD THIS PREVENT US FROM AFFORDING AN INCREASED IMPORTANCE TO ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND TO SITE PROTECTION. THIS NEW SITUATION WILL HAVE PARTICULAR REPERCUSSIONS ON THE FUTURE WORK OF ADVISORY SERVICES IN ALL THE MEMBER STATES OF THE COMMUNITY AND EVEN ON THE STRUCTURE OF THESE SERVICES. THEIR ORGANISATION, PERSONNEL AND ROLE MUST ALL BE REVIEWED IN THE LIGHT OF THE CHANGES THAT WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE ORGANISATION OF AGRICULTURAL STRUCTURES AND IN THE EVOLUTION OF FARM PRODUCTION. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY WILL PLAY A STILL GREATER ROLE IN THIS CONTEXT.
