Abstract

THE RANGE BETWEEN ESSENTIAL AND TOXIC BORON CONTENT IN SOILS IS QUITE SMALL. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES A METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF BORON IN RYE GRASS BY ISOTOPE DILUTION MASS SPECTROMETRY (IDMS). IDMS IS PERFORMED USING NEGATIVE THERMAL IONIZATION AT MASSESS 42{10B 16O 16O(-)} AND 43{11B 16O 16O(-)}. THE 10B/11B RATIOS ARE CORRECTED FOR THE 10B16O17O(-) CONTRIBUTION AT MASS 43 AND FOR MASS FRACTIONATION. THE CHEMICAL BLANK IS DETERMINED USING THE STANDARD ADDITION METHOD. THE NUMERICAL CALCULATIONS ARE DONE USING AT LEAST SQUARE FIT COMPUTER PROGRAM. THE BORON CONTENT OF THIS REFERENCE MATERIAL (BCR 281) HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AS 5.64 I O.56 MICROGRAMME/G DRY RYE GRASS.
