Abstract

THIS PROGRAMME FORMS A BRIDGE BETWEEN AN EARLIER PROGRAMME AND A LATER PROPOSAL. THE OBJECTIVE OF ALL THREE IS TO DEVELOP COMPUTER CODES CAPABLE OF SIMULATING THE IN-CYLINDER FLOW AND TURBULENCE FIELDS IN RECIPROCATING ENGINES, ALONGSIDE EXPERIMENTAL WORK PROVIDING FLOW MEASUREMENTS FOR CODE EVALUATION. PROBLEMS WERE ENCOUNTERED WITH THE MICE CODE, SO THAT AN EARLIER DEVELOPMENT CODE EPISO WAS USED AS THE BASIS FOR FURTHER WORK. A COMBUSTION MODULE HAS BEEN INCORPORATED INTO EPISO. DEVELOPMENTOF THE SPEED CODE HAS MET THE INTERIM OBJECTIVE. THE EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAMME HAS DEVELOPED HARDWARE FOR HIGH SPEED LASER DOPPLER ANEMOMETRY MEASUREMENTS.
