Abstract

TWO INDEPENDENT APPROACHES, BASED ON THE INCLUSION OF MODEL LOSS TERMS IN ANALYTICAL FISCH-BOOZER AND NUMERICAL FOKKER-PLANCK MODELS, GIVE GOOD QUANTITATIVE AGREEMENT ON THE REDUCTION OF ELECTRON CYCLOTRON CURRENT DRIVE (EECD) EFFICIENCY BY NON-COULOMB ENERGY LOSS. BY FITTING RECENT TOKAMAK MEASUREMENTS OF ECCD EFFICIENCY TO THESE RESULTS, THE CHARACTERISTIC TIMESCALE OF NON-COULOMB ENERGY LOSS IN VELOCITY SPACE IS CALCULATED.
