Abstract

LOW-Z MATERIALS ARE BEING STUDIED, WITH THE AIM OF LOOKING INTO THEIR HYDROGEN RELEASE CHARACTERISTICS. THE EFFECTS OF VERY THIN TIC COATINGS DEPOSITED ON THE NET STEEL AISI 316L ARE BEING INVESTIGATED. FIRST MEASUREMENTS SHOW A SENSIBLE DECREASE OF THE HYDROGEN RELEASE RATE, WHEN COMPARED TO BARE STEEL DATA. IN ADDITION, SURFACE PROCESSES ARE PRESENT IN THE EXPERIMENTAL PRESSURE RANGE SCANNED. AN INTERPRETATION OF THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA IS ATTEMPTED ON THE BASIS OF SIMPLE DIFFUSION- AND SURFACE-LIMITED HYDROGEN RELEASE MODELS. POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES ARE DISCUSSED.
