Résumé

A GLOBAL APPROACH TO THE MANAGEMENT OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE MUST NOT ONLY TAKE ACCOUNT OF TECHNOLOGICAL AND SAFETY ISSUES BUT ALSO OF FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS. THIS STUDY HAS ASSESSED A NUMBER OF CASES REPRESENTATIVE OF CURRENT TENDENCIES IN THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY, THE COSTS OF LONG-TERM STORAGE OF WASTE INTENDED TO BE DISPOSED OF IN SUITABLE GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS. THE COSTS COMPRISE RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND SITE RATIFICATION EXPENSES, TRANSPORT AND SHORT-TERM STORAGE COSTS AND THOSE RELATING STRICTLY TO GEOLOGICAL STORAGE AND SITE CLOSURE. FOR AN ELECTRONUCLEAR PRODUCTION OF 25 GWE OVER THIRTY YEARS, THE COST OF LONG-TERM STORAGE IS OF THE ORDER OF TWO BILLION ECUS. POSSIBLE FINANCIAL MEANS ARE THEN REVIEWED AND THE FINANCIAL CHARGES WHICH RESULT CALCULATED FOR EACH OF THE SOLUTIONS CONSIDERED.
