Résumé

THE RESULTS OF A FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR A HIGH ENERGY, PULSED SOURCE, TOMOGRAPH ARE REPORTED. IT IS DESIGNED FOR THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE EXAMINATION OF PRE-CONDITIONED RADIOACTIVE WASTE OF LOW OR MEDIUM ACTIVITY. AFTER DESCRIBING THE RADIATION SOURCE, DETECTOR SYSTEM, DATA PROCESSING AND MECHANICS OF THE SYSTEM, THE REPORT DESCRIBES THE WORK PROGRAMME AND THE CONCLUSIONS REACHED. THE DETECTOR MATERIAL CHOSEN IS BGO, AND THE RADIATION SOURCE WILL BE A CAREFULLY OPTIMIZED ACCELERATOR. A CALCULATION CODE HAS BEEN VALIDATED FOR THE TRANSMISSION OF GAMMA RAYS THROUGH CONCRETE (UP TO 1625 MM THICK). THE SYSTEM CONFIGURATION HAS BEEN DETERMINED AND THE DATA PROCESSORS HAVE BEEN CHOSEN. THE ALGORITHMS FOR IMAGE RECONSTRUCTION HAVE BEEN VALIDATED BY TAKING A TOMOGRAM ON A CONCRETE SAMPLE.
