Abstract

THIS REPORT HAS THREE PAPERS ON PLASMA PHYSICS. THE FIRST ONE CONCERNS MICROINSTABILITY BASED MODELS OF ANOMALOUS ENERGY TRANSPORT. THIS CONSIDERS THE EFFECT OF SEMICOLLISIONAL MICROINSTABILITIES DRIVEN BY TRAPPED ELECTRON DYNAMICS AND BY THE COMBINED EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE GRADIENTS AND CURVATURE. THE QUASILINEAR TRANSPORT COEFFICIENTS ARE DERIVED AND COMPARED TO GENERAL TRENDS IN TRANSPORT. THE SECOND PAPER DEALS WITH PROPAGATION OF LOWER HYBRID (LH) WAVES IN PLASMA IN THE PRESENCE OF MAGNETIC ISLANDS. THIS WAS INVESTIGATED USING A RECENTLY DEVELOPED ASYMPTOTIC TECHNIQUE WHICH ALLOWS EXPLICIT ANALYTICAL SOLUTIONS OF THE PROBLEM. THE FINAL PAPER CONCERNS A PHENOMENOLOGICAL APPROACH TO DENSITY FLUCTUATION IN TOKAMAKS. IT DESCRIBES FLUCTUATIONS AROUND THE OBSERVED (AVERAGE) STATE OF TURBULENT FLUCTUATION SPECTRA, BY AN EQUATION FOR THE FLUCTUATING PART OF THE DENSITY. THE PAPER CONCENTRATES ON POWER BEHAVIOUR OF CORRELATION FUNCTIONS AT LARGE FREQUENCY AND WAVENUMBER.
