SPECIATION OF ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS AND TRACE METALS : PROJECTS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE ANALYTICAL QUALITY IN EUROPE (COMMUNITY BUREAU OF REFERENCE - BCR)
The inputs of organometallic compounds and other chemical forms of metals in the environment have been of great concern for the past ten years due to their high toxicity. Analytical methods applied to the determination of these chemical species were therefore developed to measure the contamination levels in the environment and it became a matter of urgency to control the validity of these techniques. This paper describes projects organised by the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) for the improvement of the quality of the analyses of various metallic chemical species in Europe such as methyl mercury, tributyl tin and organo-arsenic compounds.
