Abstract

Recovery of waste heat in industry offers a great potential for energy saving. Large scale heat pumps are generally expected to be the most efficient technique for low temperature energy recovery. At Battelle in Frankfurt, research and development of industrial heat pumps concentrates on Absorption Heat Pumps (AHP) and Heat Transformers. The objective of the project described in this paper is to develop a 50 kW two-stage high temperature AHP for output temperature levels up to 130 C. The thermodynamic principles and the plant design are described on the basis of flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation charts. The test unit is currently under construction.
