SERVICES AND REGIONS IN EUROPEFunded under: PRE-FAST 2
This book is based on research carried out for the FAST programme, particularly relying on the results of 6 regional case studies. The work analyses the different definitions of service activities, reviews the determinants of the growth of service industries (services to households, business services, the process of externalisation), and proceeds to analyse trends towards localisation of service activities and the role of new technologies in this field. It sets out the means and ends for a regional policy for the services. It indicates the risks of growing regional disparities which result from current trends towards concentration of service activities.
