  • THE MEASUREMENT OF PARASITIC COMPONENTS IN FORCE STANDARD MACHINES OF DIFFERENT EUROPEAN LABORATORIES - I.M.G.C., N.P.L., T.N.O., P.T.B., L.N.E.

Abstract

Parasitic effects caused by undesirable components (side forces and moments) are one of the sources of error in the measurements performed in force standard machines. The parasitic components existing in the force standard machines of the IMGC (I), NPL (UK), PTB (D), LNE (F) and TNO (NL), were measured using a 6-component dynamometer designed and constructed by IMGC. Several tests were carried out to monitor the influence of different parameters on parasitic components. The work has shown that parasitic components on the force standard machines studied are very small, when these operate correctly. Anomalies in some of the machines were detected and subsequently corrected during or after the performance of the measurements.
