Abstract

In an attempt to test the applicability of the SP gradient method as a tool for geothermal exploration, Lagadas low enthalpy geothermal field was used as a test site. A total of 63 line Km was surveyed along 10 profiles, covering the main geothermal field area. SP map compiled data correlated with other geological and geophysical information available. SP anomalies detected were inverted to causative polarised planes and their relation to existing deep fracturing of the basement was investigated. Circulation of hot water in deep permeable fracture zones was considered to be the originating mechanism of the SP anomalies observed. Finally a proposal was made for the future exploitation of Lagadas low enthalpy geothermal field to heat the nearby town of Lagadas.
