MODERN MANAGEMENT IN THE COAL MINES INFORMATION SYMPOSIUM - IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY THROUGH TECHNOLOGY
The symposium surveys the introduction of information technology and microelectronics into coal mining. Computer-based control centres are used for the remote monitoring and control of work at the coal face and of the coal transport networks. Computer-based information and expert systems are used to assist in the tasks of operational management, including safety aspects and fault diagnosis. Other management information systems provide data for use in advance planning or as an aid to reliability and improved productivity. The use of electronics, particularly acoustic radar and in-seam seismics, in surveying combined with the use of computers for mapping has proved a valuable tool.
